If you can knit the knit stitch and purl the purl stitch, then you can make the Midway dishcloth and washcloth pattern. Midway is a great pattern for beginners or for experienced knitters that need to knit a batch quickly.
Midway is knitted mainly using stockinette stitch (knit one row, purl the next) with a garter stitch border (knit). The border serves a couple of purposes:
- Stockinette stitch, by itself, will curl and no amount of blocking will eliminate all that curl. Having the garter stitch border allows the cloth to lie flat.
- Having a border around the simple stockinette stitch gives it pretty visual interest. Just stockinette or just garter is functional, but combining the two, makes it pretty.
I often choose solids colors for my designs because the star of the show is the design itself and often shows up better with a solid yarn. But there are some beautiful cotton variegated yarns out there for that just look so pretty with Midway’s simple design.
